On October 22 EDHS members and guests were treated to a recounting of the James Bond Steele diaries by Melanie Moore and members of the Highlands Historical Society.
Steele travelled to the Edmonton area from Ontario in the 1880s and his diaries offer a fascinating glimpse into Canada’s west during a tumultuous and exciting period of our history.
If you’re interested in learning more, “James Bond Steele Diaries – The Daily Life of a One-Room Schoolteacher in Early Edmonton 1885-1891” was recently published by the Highlands Historical Society, and is available from the Highlands Historical Society, Mandolin Books, Audrey’s Books, and the Provincial Archives of Alberta gift shop.
