HISTORIC FESTIVAL AND DOORS OPEN 2026
The Edmonton and District Historical Society Presents
The 30th Annual Historic Festival and Doors Open
JULY 5-12, 2026
It’s our birthday! For 30 years, the Edmonton and District Historical Society (EDHS) has proudly presented the annual Historic Festival & Doors Open Edmonton. Each year, community arts and heritage organizations, historic sites, and corporate partners from across the Edmonton region offer unique tours and events as part of this week-long celebration.
EDHS will promote your event through a festival marketing campaign, including television and print advertising, social media promotion and a dedicated webpage featuring your event and programming. Best of all, there is no cost to register!
2026 Festival Theme: Celebrating 30 Years
This year’s Historic Festival & Doors Open Edmonton proudly celebrates its 30th birthday. The 2026 theme honours three decades of storytelling, community connection, and heritage preservation across the Edmonton region. Partners and participants are invited to reflect on milestones, memories, and moments that have shaped their organizations and communities, while looking ahead to the future of heritage, arts and culture. Through special events, tours and programming, the festival will celebrate the people, places and stories that have built this legacy — and those that will carry it forward for the next generation.

CALL FOR STORIES
As part of this year’s campaign, we’re inviting partners to help bring Alberta’s history to life by sharing stories from your communities.
We’re looking for short stories connected to specific historic places, buildings, events, or community memories. These could include the history of a notable building, a memorable moment tied to a site, a little-known historical event, or personal or community recollections connected to a place.
Selected stories will be featured on the Historic Festival website and highlighted through our social media channels throughout the campaign to help showcase the rich and diverse history being celebrated across the province.
If you are interested in contributing, please send:
- A short story or description (approximately 150–300 words)
- The name and location of the historic site, event, or place referenced
- Any photos you may have permission to share (optional but encouraged)
- Photo credits or source information if applicable
Stories can be submitted anytime up until and including the festival dates.
We’re excited to highlight the unique stories that make your communities special and help inspire people to explore Alberta’s history during the festival.
Thank you for continuing to support and participate in the Historic Festival.
Please email your stories to events@historicedmonton.ca
